Dear Mayor Clark and Members of Council:
The Riverland Terrace Neighborhood Association is very active in our community including having a Planning and Zoning Committee. This committee reviews issues such as variance and subdivision requests in the Town of James Island and the City of Charleston. Other jurisdictions send us notification of such issues and post a sign at the affected property, so that we can review and respond to them as they arise. So far with the Town we have to catch public notices and attend meetings to know what is going on.
Recently we learned that a subdivision was approved back in January that neighbors were opposed to. Unfortunately we didn’t know about it until it was too late.
A big issue with our members is the subdivision of grand lots. Grand lots are located along the Wappoo Cut and Stono River. We oppose the subdivision or lot line modification of any grand lots as the design intent was clearly for low density development in the original neighborhood plan.
We are requesting that you establish a process of posting notices for subdivision, variances, etc., so that we can develop a working relationship regarding planning and zoning.
We at RTNA appreciate the opportunity to build a working relationship with the Town of James Island.
Sincerely,
John Meffert, Co-President
